The Sand Cherry

Surrounded by transparent petals of white

is the bloody center of

the Sand Cherry

He brightly faces the sun of a new day

and the clear choice

for those who can't see it

He is rooted in the shifting sands

sands that have lost their nutrition

and purpose

crippled and bent by stinging winds

of drought and vortex

eager to cripple him

they are

knowing not the true strength

that flows dark

from the Sand Cherry's center

Leaves and stems red with anger

hold tight

their true strength flows

inherited from years of hard labor

supporting the blood red center that

long after the tissue thin petals

wither and shed

their showy days long over

the Sand Cherry will

continue to prevail.
